Art & Digital Placemaking

Art and digital placemaking give a space memory and response. A public art component — material-consistent, scale-resolved, structurally engineered — becomes inseparable from the space rather than a decorative addition. Digital placemaking embeds responsive, programmable content as a spatial object, not a technology install.

Both are designed inside the same federated BIM model as architecture, lighting and furniture, under one lead architect — hardware, enclosure, mounting and cabling resolved alongside the art, and content briefed simultaneously, so a space performs by day as architecture and by night as experience, without revealing the seams.

What is digital placemaking?

Physical buildings, spaces and trails give a place its body. Digital placemaking adds a layer of experience — living, interactive and playable — capable of turning a visit into a journey through time.

At a UNESCO-listed rock-art site in Saudi Arabia, visitors can simply point a phone at the stone and watch nine thousand years of petroglyphs come alive again. Ancient artists appear in augmented reality, the desert transforms back into a green savanna, and the trail becomes an engaging outdoor game for the whole family.

We presented the Digital Horizon concept to the client as a digital complement to the physical signage system: a second, invisible layer of wayfinding and storytelling that requires no additional screens in the landscape.

This is how we design experiences for landscapes, destinations and places of every scale. Wherever a place holds a story worth telling, a digital layer allows visitors to step deeper into its context, meaning and emotion.

— FAQ

Frequently asked.

Common questions about scope, deliverables and coordination.

— 01Do you commission and produce artworks?+
Lucid leads art design, integration and production coordination. Fabrication is delivered through trusted production partners under our single-point coordination.
— 02Is digital placemaking a software product?+
No. We design the spatial, hardware and content logic and hold BIM authority. Where specialist content authoring is required, we coordinate selected partners under one delivery framework.
— 03How do art and digital relate to the other disciplines?+
Both are designed as part of the integrated object family — material-consistent and structurally engineered — and coordinated with lighting, signage and furniture in one BIM model.
— 04How is the technology kept from dominating the space?+
Enclosures, mounting and cabling are designed inside the same BIM model as the architecture — so the space reads as architecture by day and experience by night, without visible seams.
